Security/Monitoring Solutions

CTI has been performing security engineering and consulting services to our customers since the company was founded in 1995. CTI’s methodology when approaching security consulting engagements is that security is not achieved only through the implementation of any single product or feature; nor is it a finite objective that once achieved will guarantee complete protection from all unknowns. Security is instead a process that exists within the network and those that use and manage it.

The process is augmented with tools and products and its ultimate goal is to achieve an acceptable balance in managing the risk associated with the operation of the network. This balance can be thought of in terms of how to decide when a new security product or feature should be implemented within the network – on one side of the scale are the time, effort, and financial resources invested as well as the possible loss of performance or functionality that could result from the implementation of certain products or features. On the other side of the scale is the actual security benefit realized by the implementation. CTI engineers have the skills and experience to help your organization achieve this delicate balance and get the most out of your security investment.

Security Services offered by CTI include (but are not limited to):

Vulnerability Assessment

CTI’s network and security assessment services review all aspects of the data and voice networks and provide recommendations to maximize security, reliability, and availability. Organizations will benefit from the following deliverables:

  • Identification of vulnerabilities that need to be immediately addressed

  • Verification of security products and features already in place

  • Prioritize security projects for future implementation

  • Assess the real-world threat to network assets

Using the state-of-the-art tools, appropriate network devices are scanned to analyze the profile of each device and determine if any corrections are indicated. Device profiles are compared to a database of known weaknesses, yielding recommendations on a per host basis. Our engineering staff then analyzes the data that is produced during the scan. Deliverables include a full report of the data produced by the scans, a briefing for managers, security personnel, and any other pertinent staff members with a list of prioritized recommendations for taking corrective action. The engineering staff at CTI can also perform security product evaluations to determine the most appropriate solution(s) for a given problem. Our engineering staff will assist in differentiating the technical and business requirements as well as the priority of the security products being evaluated. The customer then approves a short list of products to evaluate against the requirements. Products can then be tested in a laboratory network. Deliverables from the laboratory testing include an evaluation report on each product tested and an unbiased recommendation of the optimal solution.

Security Policy Development

CTI understands that any security policy must satisfy business objectives as well as the technical aspects of securing a company's information assets. Part of developing a secure network is crafting a set of organizational security policies. These policies establish the rules and guidelines that system and network engineers can use when deploying solutions. This policy would then guide how network engineers install and configure firewalls, intrusion detection systems and other network equipment. Developing a useful, practical, and feasible network security policy document can be very time consuming, especially if you are unsure about all the possible technical and practical implications of certain decisions. CTI can help your organization develop and deploy a comprehensive security policy

CTI Delivers Cisco’s Threat Control and Containment (TCC) Security Solutions

Coleman Technologies, Inc. was honored by Cisco System’s with the 2004 US Outstanding Performance in Security award (Cisco’s national award for all US markets). Cisco performance awards are based on the demonstration of Cisco “best practices” and innovative successes in Security deployments and implementations. Securing networks and mission critical applications requires complete integration between all security products and services; this is the basis of the Cisco philosophy on network and infrastructure security. CTI engineers have extensive experience implementing all of Cisco’s Advanced Security products including: Cisco ASA security appliance for firewall and VPN services, Cisco IPS sensors and modules for in-band intrusion prevention, Cisco NAC Appliance for network based security policy enforcement, Cisco Security Agent for host based intrusion prevention, Cisco Security Manager for consolidated management of all security components, and Cisco MARS for security event management with event correlation, incident identification, reporting, and alerting.

Wireless Network Focused Analysis

Wireless networks are inexpensive, simple to deploy and very attractive for an increasingly mobile workforce. Unfortunately, wireless access points are designed for ease of use, not security. They often ship with protective measures disabled, and are easily installed without IT's knowledge or permission. CTI provides a broad range of protection solutions including WEP, LEAP and VPN isolation to establish safe, secure wireless operations.

A thorough risk analysis provides upper management with a business case for prioritizing and justifying future security expenditures. Depending on the scope of the risk analysis, the project may involve assessing sensitivity, criticality, threat, vulnerability, and susceptibility to penetration. Results of these assessments are compared to business assessments and the relative value of corporate information. Deliverables include assessment reports, a briefing for security personnel and management, and a list of prioritized recommendations.

Network Monitoring / Managed Services

CTI maintains a Managed Services Group (MSG) that provides Day-2 support and Proactive Network Monitoring services to maximize uptime of critical IT resources and prevent and minimize downtime and negative impact to a customer’s business. By utilizing CTI Managed Services and proactive network and IPT monitoring services, customers can increase network security and stability while lowering the cost of system maintenance and administration.

Comprehensive management and security services enable customers to outsource critical information technology functions and simplify the management of their IT infrastructure. Its implementation enables small and medium-sized organizations to stop spending all of their internal IT staff’s time on maintenance and troubleshooting and instead have them focus on more strategic projects. Comprehensive management and security services can reduce the administrative overhead for your customers while providing an up-to-date, stable, secure infrastructure to run their day-to-day operations.

Small and medium-sized organizations typically want to work closely with IT service partners to establish customized IT support strategies. They seek trustworthy service providers to support their critical IT systems with the knowledge that those providers will have access to their confidential data. Managed services, security, and associated support offerings expand their ability to address customer needs and fill a gap left by traditional consulting companies.

      * Simplified Version of Coleman Technologies, Inc. Managed Services

Coleman Technologies, Inc. Managed Services covers the following key areas:

  • Faults – Coleman Technologies continually monitors the client network, system and application environment, providing alerts that enable rapid identification of problems based on customer-defined threshold limits. All critical alerts can result in immediate customer notification through paging and\or email. In most cases, Coleman Technologies will process the alert and remotely resolve the problem without the client being aware there was ever an issue.

  • Asset Management – Infrastructure asset reporting tracks IT assets by IP address, node name and software image for capacity planning, maintenance and regulatory documentation purposes.

  • Performance – Monitors networks, systems and applications, providing hourly, daily and weekly reports on key IT metrics, such as CPU, memory and disk. This enables rapid identification of potential problems (i.e., over-subscription) before they impact IT service.

Coleman Technologies, Inc. Managed Services is ideal for:

  • Clients that are interested in remote management of their IT and IPT resources

  • Clients that are interested in avoiding crisis situations through a preventative approach to IT maintenance

  • Clients with limited network staff and budgetary resources

  • Clients interested in improving the consistency and discipline of IT operation (best practices)

  • Clients that want to reduce the risk of data loss, virus attacks and security breaches

  • Clients that wish to gain additional time for their internal IT staff by outsourcing non-strategic but essential operations activities

  • Clients with rapidly expanding network infrastructures

  • Clients interest in completely outsourcing their network operations

Service Benefits:

  • Cost-saving proactive maintenance – utilizes best practices and technologies that focus on targeting the root cause of problems before they degrade serve – in contrast to simply detecting a problem as it occurs

  • Enhance staff productivity – CTI’s experts manage IT and IPT projects for a fraction of the cost of having these highly trained professionals on staff. Today’s Microsoft based technologies require that staff or consultative resources have experience in NT, SQL Server, Exchange Server, Terminal Server, IIS Server, Site Server, Proxy Server, LAN/WAN technologies, desktop operating systems and deployment technologies. With over 30 certified Cisco engineers and the largest staff of IP Telephony certified engineers in Florida, CTI is uniquely positioned to offer end-to-end solutions.

  • Predictable costs – for a manageable and predictable monthly fee, CTI Managed Services allows small to mid-size companies to leverage the same advantages and efficiencies that larger companies have derived for years from the resources and tools they can afford to purchase

  • Predictable operations, reduced business interruption – outsourcing and centralizing maintenance shortens time to service when there is a computer problem. Getting systems back up and on-line as quickly as possible reduces losses due to business interruption. Proactive system monitoring and regularly scheduled maintenance helps to ensure that system downtime is expected and planned for.
